Tungwarara Launches $150,000 Business Fund for War Veterans in Mashonaland West, Plus Houses and Boreholes

Presidential Adviser Paul Tungwarara, launched the War Veterans Welfare Fund for Mashonaland West Province, on Tuesday, allocating $150,000 to support business ventures for war veterans.

In addition to the financial boost, each war veteran will receive a rural house and a borehole at their homestead, significantly improving their living conditions and economic prospects.

The launch event, held at a packed Bhutsu School in Banket, saw each war veteran receiving $200 and hampers containing essential goods.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader commitment to honor and support those who fought in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, ensuring they have sustainable livelihoods.

Presidential Adviser Paul Tungwarara, who spearheaded the launch, emphasized the multifaceted nature of the support.

“The $150,000 fund is specifically earmarked for business ventures to empower our war veterans economically. This is not just about handouts; it’s about creating sustainable livelihoods. On top of that, each war veteran will receive a rural house and a borehole to ensure they have decent shelter and access to clean water,” Tungwarara said.

He added that the initiative reflects President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of leaving no one behind.

“Mashonaland West is the ninth province to benefit from this program. This is a holistic approach to improving their welfare,” Tungwarara said.

Zanu PF War Veterans League Secretary Douglas Mahiya praised the initiative, describing it as a comprehensive solution to the challenges faced by war veterans.

“This program goes beyond immediate relief. The $150,000 for business ventures will enable our war veterans to start income-generating projects, while the houses and boreholes will address their basic needs. It’s a well-rounded approach to restoring their dignity,” Mahiya said.

War Veterans Deputy Minister Headman Moyo highlighted the transformative impact of the initiative.

“This is a game-changer for our war veterans. The business fund will empower them to become self-reliant, while the houses and boreholes will improve their quality of life. We are committed to ensuring that every war veteran benefits from this program,” Moyo said.

Mashonaland West Provincial Minister Marian Chombo expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting its potential to uplift the province.

“Our war veterans have sacrificed so much for this nation. This fund, along with the houses and boreholes, will go a long way in improving their lives. We are thankful to the President and his team for this life-changing initiative,” Chombo said.

The launch event was attended by hundreds of war veterans, who expressed their appreciation for the support.

“The $200 and the hamper are a welcome relief, but the promise of a business fund, a house, and a borehole gives me hope for a better future. I can finally start a small business and provide for my family,” said one war veteran who attended the event.

With Mashonaland West now on board, the focus shifts to Harare Province, which is set to be the last beneficiary of the War Veterans Welfare Fund.

The government has assured that the program will be rolled out in Harare soon, completing the nationwide initiative.
