US$4.5 Million Stolen from Harare Quarry, But No Police Report Filed – Mayor Mafume

Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has revealed that a staggering US$4.5 million was embezzled from Harare Quarry, a subsidiary of the Harare City Council.

Despite the massive financial loss, Mafume admitted that he never filed a police report or initiated an investigation to track down the missing funds, even though he has been in office since 2018.

When asked why he failed to take legal action, the mayor stated that his only response was to replace the management of Harare Quarry in an attempt to prevent further financial mismanagement.

The revelation has raised serious concerns about accountability and transparency within the city council, with residents and stakeholders questioning why no decisive steps were taken to recover the stolen money.

Meanwhile, calls for an independent audit and police intervention are growing as the scandal unfolds.

There was drama in Greendale, Harare, when a team led by Justice Maphios Cheda paused Mayor Jacob Mafume’s testimony to visit a property he claimed was his home.

The team found that the property, located at 1110 Coronation Road, Greendale, was not a house but a vehicle auction site.

When Mayor Mafume tried to explain, Judge Cheda told him to do so later.

The team decided to visit the location after realizing that Mayor Mafume had given false information under oath.

Mayor Mafume said it was a mistake and that his actual house was two blocks away.

However, the team did not accept his explanation and continued with the inspection.
