Washington Takura Muzweir, a Zimbabwean national, was arrested on Wednesday in Vadodara City, India, for allegedly assaulting a man and coercing him into transferring money from his bank account. Muzweir is also accused of slapping a police constable who tried to intervene during the incident.
Muzweir, a student at a university in Waghodia, reportedly had a dispute with Rameshkumar Nandlal Agarwal, a construction site manager responsible for the property Muzweir had rented. The argument centered around the return of a security deposit for the flat Muzweir had rented and was seeking to vacate.
According to reports, when Agarwal attempted to mediate between Muzweir and the mother of the property owner, the situation escalated. Muzweir allegedly attacked Agarwal and forced him to transfer Rs 14,000 from Agarwal’s bank account into his own.
The situation took another turn when two police constables arrived to handle the matter, but Muzweir allegedly attacked them as well. The police later filed two FIRs against Muzweir: one for assault, extortion, and illegal money transfer, and another for assaulting the constables.
Agarwal described the incident, stating that Muzweir barged into the home of an elderly woman and, after being asked to leave, dragged him to a lift, stripped him, and assaulted him while forcing him to complete the money transfer via a payment app.
Reports indicate that Muzweir had requested his Rs 16,000 security deposit from the property owner, but the owner had delayed the refund to follow proper procedures.
Muzweir now faces charges under various sections of Indian law, including extortion and obscene acts.
