Murehwa Times community WhatsApp group administrator Tasunungurwa Freedom Manuhwa has appeared in court facing charges of violating Cyber and Data Protection Act.
Manuhwa who was a self actor pleaded guilty when he appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzayi who remanded him custody.
The complainant is Taurai Siyawamwaya who operates various businesses in Harare and Murehwa.
Manuhwa who is a whatsapp group admin for a social community WhatsApp group called Murehwa Times posted the said malicious messages using Econet mobile number.
Manuhwa is allegedly employed by an unregistered Social Media News Channel.
The complainant is the farther to one, Nathan Siyawamwaya who is suffering from a mental disability and the court heard that sometime during the period between June 2025 and December 2025, the accused person posted on the said Murehwa Times News Channel the following words,
The state alleges the utterances in English convert to,” Spiritual healer Kanemgo said Nathan Siyawamwaya’s sickness is being caused by Taurai Siyawamwaya, the father to Nathan Siyawamwaya. He went on to say that Taurai Siyawamwaya was hiding at Chibhanguza Hotel during cleansing ceremony waiting to hear the verdict of the traditional court”.
The court heard that on September 3, 2025, the complainant noticed that the accused person had launched a cyber-bullying attack on his person with the intention to cause substantial emotional distress and dignity to the complainant through the WhatsApp channel.
This then prompted the complainant to report the case to the police leading to the subsequent arrest of the accused on 20 January 2026.
The court heard that upon arrest accused was found in possession of a cellphone sim card which he used to commit the offence and is registered in his name.
A report from CID Cyber Laboritory was obtained and will be produced in court as evidence.
Manuhwa is expected to be recorded his pleadings today.
