Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has openly criticized Chigananda critics , labeling them “failed politicians” in a social media post. This development marks a further escalation of tensions within the ruling Zanu PF party, where factional divisions continue to deepen.
Zanu PF has been grappling with internal rivalries, with one faction aligned with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and another reportedly supporting his deputy, Chiwenga. During a speech at the National Heroes Acre on Monday, where former Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Justin Mupamhanga, was being laid to rest, Chiwenga condemned corruption within the party, accusing certain individuals of amassing wealth illegally.
His remarks, some analysts suggest, were directed at high-profile figures such as Chivayo.
Responding on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, Chivayo dismissed the comments, declaring that he remains unwavering in his support for Mnangagwa and the ruling party’s agenda. He emphasized that no individual, regardless of status, could intimidate him into changing his stance.
The online exchanges come amid reports circulating on social media of alleged letters attributed to Chivayo, requesting local banks to facilitate monthly cash withdrawals of up to US$20 million for unspecified transactions. Despite widespread speculation, Chivayo has denied any connection to the purported documents.
