Eunice Dembo, the widow of renowned sungura musician Leonard Dembo, has expressed immense gratitude to businessman Wicknell Chivayo for honoring her late husband’s legacy in a way she never anticipated.
As a token of appreciation, she pledged to pray for Chivayo’s health and longevity.
Chivayo generously presented Mai Dembo with a brand-new Toyota Fortuner along with US$50,000 to help her start a business. Additionally, her three children—Morgan, Tendai, and Fenistia—each received a Toyota Aqua.
Mai Dembo opened up about the challenges she faced as a widow. Although she did not make a direct appeal for assistance, Chivayo came across the story, was moved by her plight, and decided to step in, engaging with the story on the publication’s platform before taking action.
On Friday, as Zimbabwe marked National Youth Day, Chivayo made good on his promise by delivering the gifts to the Dembo family.
“National Youth Day is about securing a promising future for all young Zimbabweans, and no one who carries the legacy of our national heroes should be left behind,” Chivayo stated.
“I want to recognize Tendai, Morgan, and Fenistia Dembo, the children of a musical icon, who, like many young Zimbabweans, are striving to preserve their father’s legacy. They represent the next generation of artists, leaders, and entrepreneurs, and it is only fitting that on a day dedicated to youth empowerment, they receive support.
“Please visit Enterprise Car Sales and meet Madzibaba Chipaga to collect a Toyota Aqua each,” he announced.
An emotional Mai Dembo was overwhelmed with gratitude for Chivayo’s generosity.
“First and foremost, I want to thank my son, Chivayo, for remembering me. I am truly lost for words. I never expected him to think of me as his mother,” she said.
“He has gifted me and my children four vehicles and US$50,000 to establish a business—something beyond my imagination. This money will go toward my business, and I am determined to make it a success.
“My brothers, children, and in-laws will now help me get around, as I can no longer do so on my own. My ultimate goal is to work hard so that one day, I can invite Chivayo to witness the impact of his generosity,” she added.
Mai Dembo emphasized the significance of the gesture, calling it historic.
“It is uncommon for an artist’s family to receive such an incredible blessing—four cars and US$50,000 in one go. This act has solidified Leonard Dembo’s legendary status.
May God bless Chivayo with many more years of good health and success.
“Even nature seemed to acknowledge this moment—the rain began to fall the exact moment we received the cars and money,” she reflected.
