A Zimbabwean man living in the UK has caused heartache for his wife after secretly marrying another woman in Zimbabwe. Thobani Ncube, who had been in a customary marriage with Maina Nyathi since 2009, reportedly wed Tswelelo Valela last Thursday in a private ceremony.
According to details revealed in a lobola list, Ncube’s family visited Nyathi’s family home in New Magwegwe, Bulawayo, on August 9, 2009, to pay lobola and formalize the relationship. Nyathi, who resides in the UK, was left devastated when she found out that Ncube, who had returned to Zimbabwe under the guise of visiting his sick father, was actually marrying his lover.

The truth came to light when Nyathi’s relatives attended the wedding reception in Esigodini on Saturday, uninvited, to confront Ncube about his actions. The situation became heated, and the police were called to remove them from the event.
In an emotional interview, Nyathi expressed her shock and heartbreak, explaining that she had trusted Ncube and believed they had a strong relationship. “I never imagined that after being together for over 25 years, he would do something like this,” she said. “We had planned to get married officially once we had settled our finances, and now I find out he’s marrying someone else.”
Ncube, however, denied any wrongdoing, dismissing the claims as “nonsense” when asked for a response.
