ZANU PF Suspends Harare Chairperson Goodwills Masimirembwa Over “2030 Mnangagwa Agenda

ZANU PF’s Harare Province has suspended its chairperson, Goodwills Masimirembwa, due to his alleged support for the controversial “2030 Mnangagwa will still be in office” campaign. This movement advocates for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in office beyond the constitutional two-term limit.

According to sources, a faction aligned with Vice President Constantino Chiwenga pushed for Masimirembwa’s removal, with further disciplinary measures anticipated. Masimirembwa received his suspension notice last week, accused of breaching both the party and national constitutions.

On November 14, 2024, provincial political commissar Kudakwashe Damson confirmed the suspension in a letter. The letter criticized Masimirembwa’s actions, describing them as shocking and a violation of party rules. It stated that Masimirembwa’s promotion of the “2030” initiative had caused division within the party, which is seen as undermining the authority and legacy of President Mnangagwa.

Additionally, Masimirembwa is blamed for sabotaging the party’s campaign efforts in the recent by-elections in Mt Pleasant and Harare East. His offices at the Zimbabwe Legal Institute were also attacked in a petrol bombing, which resulted in a security guard suffering severe burns.
