ZANU PF to Endorse Mnangagwa’s Term Extension at Upcoming Conference

ZANU PF Councillor Assaulted During Campaign Rally

ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa has revealed that the ruling party intends to use its upcoming annual conference to officially approve the extension of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s tenure.

During the 21st National People’s Conference held in October 2024, ZANU PF adopted Resolution Number One, which proposed pushing Mnangagwa’s current term limit from 2028 to 2030 — a decision that has since stirred divisions within the party.

Speaking to the Zimbabwe Independent, Mutsvangwa said the majority of party members support the idea of extending the President’s leadership.

“The organs, provinces, and general membership are satisfied with His Excellency’s leadership,” said Mutsvangwa.
“Their sentiment is: ‘If it isn’t broken, why fix it?’ Delegates have strongly agreed that President Mnangagwa should continue until 2030.
They have dismissed all other forms of self-serving ambition and ignored the irrelevant noise from social media.”

The annual conference, set to take place from next Friday until 18 October at the Mutare Polytechnic Pavilion Grounds, will follow Politburo and Central Committee meetings in Harare.

Approximately 4,000 delegates, including international guests, are expected to attend — a smaller number compared to the nearly 7,000 participants who attended in previous years.
