A cricket player was arrested yesterday in Kwekwe for stabbing his wife. Tarisai Musakanda, 29, is facing attempted murder charges after a dispute with his wife, Tinodiwanashe Makunike, also known as Mai Dewei.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed Musakanda’s arrest. Musakanda, who has represented Zimbabwe in five Test matches, 16 ODIs, and 12 T20Is, has not played international cricket for nearly two years.
The incident reportedly began when Mai Dewei had hired two men to build a shelter for her vending business. The men came to collect their payment, leading to a confrontation with Musakanda.

Musakanda allegedly attacked Mai Dewei with a kitchen knife, causing injuries to her hands and back.
A neighbor told H-Metro that the altercation occurred around 3 a.m. yesterday. The neighbor reported hearing Mai Dewei’s cries for help and found Musakanda holding a knife while Mai Dewei tried to defend herself, resulting in her injuries. The neighbor said they quickly took Mai Dewei to the hospital and Musakanda was detained at Kwekwe Central Police Station.
The neighbor also mentioned previous conflicts between the couple, including an instance where Musakanda had assaulted Mai Dewei with a bat.
In 2022, Musakanda faced culpable homicide charges related to the death of former tennis player Gwinyai Chingoka but was later cleared.
