Zimbabwe Faces Dry Spell, But Normal to Above-Average Rain Expected for Season

One perish following heavy rains in Gwanda

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a warning to the public to stay vigilant as rainfall is expected to return, potentially bringing hailstorms and strong winds.

In an interview with ZBC News, Meteorologist Baba Maketa advised farmers to use the current dry spell to complete tasks such as weeding, as normal to above-average rainfall is anticipated from December through February.

Maketa emphasized that while a dry spell is expected over the next week, the overall season remains favorable for agricultural activities. He added, “Although there is a dry spell forecasted for the next seven days, our advisory confirms that from December to February, we expect normal to above-average rainfall. However, with the return of rain, thunderstorms and heavy downpours may occur, so people should be cautious.”

Earlier, the MSD had warned of a hot and dry spell from November 30 to December 11, 2024, due to a cool, moist south-easterly airflow affecting the region.
