Fraudster Henrietta Rushwaya, the president of the Zimbabwe Miners’ Federation, has been arrested on allegations related to an undisclosed mining transaction. Details of the arrest were not immediately disclosed by the police, who stated that further information would be provided once Rushwaya appears in court.

As of last night, Rushwaya was in police custody, cooperating with investigations into the matter. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest, indicating that Rushwaya is being investigated following a report filed by a complainant regarding a purported mining deal.

This arrest follows a previous incident in November last year when Rushwaya was fined US$5,000 after being convicted of attempting to smuggle 6kg of gold worth over US$333,000 to Dubai.

Despite her claims of mistakenly picking up the wrong bag containing gold bars instead of her intended luggage, the courts found her defence implausible. Rushwaya was fined US$5,000 and handed an 18-month suspended jail term on the condition of no similar offence within three years.

The prosecution’s case relied on evidence that Henrietta Rushwaya was apprehended with the gold in her possession without a valid export permit, presenting a counterfeit invoice and packing list from a company named Ali Japan 786 (Pvt) Limited.

In another story, Harare Controversial entrepreneur and Zimbabwe Mining Federation president Henrieta Rushwaya has come under scrutiny amid allegations that she defrauded Indian investors of USD 1 million in a failed mining venture.
