HARARE, Zimbabwe | Zimbabwe has applied to join the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB), according to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The nation has submitted an application to join the NDB and anticipates Russian cooperation. The state-run Herald newspaper cited Mnangagwa as saying on Friday.
He made the comments at a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Thursday.
The Zimbabwean president is one of several African leaders that attended the second Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, which concluded on Friday.
The forum took place ahead of the 15th BRICS summit, which will take place in South Africa in late August.
The New Development Bank (NDB) is a multinational financial organisation founded in 2015 by the BRICS countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Its primary goal is to support infrastructure and sustainable development projects in BRICS countries as well as other emerging market economies and underdeveloped nations.
