Zimbabwe Taekwondo Academy Heads to South Africa for Inaugural Ace Tournament

A 23-member team from the Zimbabwe Taekwondo Academy departed for South Africa yesterday to participate in the inaugural Ace tournament at the Boskruin Community Centre in Randburg.

The event is scheduled for tomorrow.

The squad traveled in two groups, and their coach, Evan Brown, expressed confidence that the team would secure gold medals.

“We are excited to participate in our first international tournament since Covid-19 and are hopeful of representing Zimbabwe well,” Brown said. “Our athletes, competing in various weight categories, have been training intensively in preparation for this event.”

The Zimbabwean squad, consisting of 23 members, underwent three months of rigorous training under fifth Dan instructor Evan Brown at Twin Rivers Primary School in Avondale. They will compete alongside over 160 athletes in a tournament open to all Chang Hon Style taekwondo practitioners.

The team includes 19 junior and four senior members. “We have been preparing diligently for the past three months, and everyone is eager to compete,” Brown added. “Our training has been intense, and we are optimistic about our chances at the tournament.”

This Ace Tournament marks Zimbabwe’s return to international competition after a long hiatus.

Team members:

Boys: Delvin Brown, Jordan Brown, Kondwani Ngwira, Dzinashenyasha Mugadzi, Antony Chaumba, Benjamin Kasotera, Joshua Boka, Siyabonga Moyo.

Girls: Maluwa Ngira, Chishuvo Makanga, Zvipozvashe Makanga, Danisa Chatendeuka, Leadri Scott, Danille Chatendeuka, Chloe Semu, Peyton Semu, Zvinashe Mukanga, Rufaro Guvi, Amika Scott, Denise Chatendeuka.
