Zimbabwean Teen Delvin Musakwa, 13, Dies in Canal Tragedy in Exeter

Exeter, United Kingdom | A 13-year-old boy who tragically passed away after jumping into a canal has been identified as Delvin Musakwa, a talented Zimbabwean footballer who played for Heavitree Youth FC in Exeter, Devon.

Delvin was found in the Exeter Ship Canal on Monday, May 5, 2025, after jumping into the waterway near Clapperbrook Lane East. According to police, he did not resurface and was later pulled from the water by rescuers. Despite receiving immediate first aid and being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, Delvin was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Scott Bowker, secretary of Heavitree Youth FC, expressed his condolences, saying, “As a club, our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and everyone who was part of his life. Delvin was a wonderful young man, well-liked by his peers, and a gifted footballer. His passing has shocked everyone at Heavitree Youth FC, and he will be deeply missed.”

Devon and Cornwall Police Acting Superintendent Chris Conway called the incident “devastating,” offering condolences to Delvin’s family and confirming they are receiving support from specialist officers. He added, “We ask that the family’s privacy is respected as they cope with this heartbreaking loss.”
