Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe – Zimbabwe’s tourism industry is soaring, with visitor numbers skyrocketing by a staggering 83% in the first half of the year.
This explosive growth is set to translate into a 12% surge in accommodation and food spending, building on last year’s impressive 26.4% increase.
The country’s tourism minister, Barbara Rwodzi, unveiled these figures at the United Nations Tourism first Regional Forum on Gastronomy for Africa in Victoria Falls.
She emphasized the government’s ambitious goal of surpassing the US$5 billion mark in tourism revenue, aligning with President Mnangagwa’s vision of an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.

What’s driving this tourism boom? Minister Rwodzi credits the government’s new strategy focusing on Zimbabwe’s rich heritage. By highlighting the country’s unique culture, wildlife, landscapes, and geology, the government aims to position Zimbabwe as a world-class tourist destination.
A key component of this strategy is gastronomy tourism. By showcasing Zimbabwe’s diverse cuisine and culinary traditions, the government hopes to attract even more visitors and create economic opportunities for local communities.
As Zimbabwe continues to invest in infrastructure and tourism development, particularly in hotspots like Victoria Falls, the future looks bright for this vital sector.
With its stunning natural beauty, warm hospitality, and growing reputation as a must-visit destination, Zimbabwe is poised to become a major player in the global tourism market.
