The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has officially released the 2024 Ordinary Level results, announcing a national pass rate of 33.19%. This marks a notable increase of 3.78% from the 2023 pass rate, demonstrating an improvement in the overall performance of students across the country.
In a statement, ZIMSEC highlighted the efforts of students, teachers, and stakeholders in achieving the improved results despite challenges faced during the academic year.
The increase reflects a positive trend in academic outcomes, with educators and policymakers attributing the improvement to targeted interventions and enhanced learning strategies implemented in schools.
The 33.19% pass rate represents the percentage of students who achieved a Grade C or better in at least five subjects, including Mathematics and English, which are critical for further education and employment opportunities.
While the pass rate remains below the desired national targets, the upward trajectory has been welcomed as a step in the right direction.
Parents and guardians have also expressed mixed reactions, with many celebrating the achievements while others emphasize the need for further investment in educational infrastructure, teacher training, and access to learning materials.
Despite the positive increase, challenges such as resource shortages, high dropout rates, and economic hardships continue to impact performance.
Education experts have called for more robust interventions, including improved teacher remuneration, enhanced e-learning platforms, and community-driven support programs to bolster student success.
ZIMSEC has urged all candidates to collect their results from their respective examination centers and reminded students of the importance of verifying their results through the official ZIMSEC online portal.
