A 33-year-old pastor from Zvishavane has been handed an 18-year prison sentence after being found guilty on three counts of aggravated indecent assault by the Kwekwe Regional Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that the pastor repeatedly sodomised an 18-year-old male congregant at a house in Redcliff during the early hours of 11 August 2025.
According to court documents, the pastor had visited the victim’s family on the night of 10 August, and was offered to share a bed with the young man, who was staying over. Around midnight, the victim awoke to find the pastor touching him inappropriately.
When the victim confronted him, the pastor allegedly said the young man was “too handsome” and that his smooth face made him feel “as if he were sharing a bed with a woman.”
He then reportedly pulled out a firearm, threatened the victim, and forcibly assaulted him several times during the night.
Before leaving for Zvishavane the next morning, the pastor allegedly warned the victim not to tell anyone, threatening to shoot him if he spoke out.
The traumatised young man later confided in his aunt, who immediately reported the incident to the police, leading to the pastor’s arrest.
In response to the case, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has urged the public to report all forms of sexual violence, stressing that no one is above the law, regardless of social or religious status.
