Victoria Falls – Zimbabwe’s top accountants, government officials and business leaders convened in Victoria Falls last week for the Zimbabwe Accountants Conference 2026 (ZAC 2026), with strong calls for greater transparency, accountability and innovation in the country’s financial systems.
The high-level indaba brought together key stakeholders including Matebeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Richard Moyo, represented by Mr Godfrey Mkwakwami, Victoria Falls Mayor Councillor Prince Moyo, and Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Deputy Governor Dr Innocent Matshe.
Also present were Valentine Mushayakarara, chairperson of the Public Accountants and Auditors Board (PAAB), senior government officials, and representatives from global bodies such as the International Federation of Accountants and the Pan African Federation of Accountants.
Running under the theme “Reimagining the Accountancy Profession for Sustainable Growth, Trust, and Future Relevance,” the conference marked the 10th edition of the gathering and celebrated 30 years of PAAB’s existence.
Speaking during the event, NetOne, the Platinum Partner, said the accountancy profession must remain at the centre of building strong institutions.
“Accountants are key to ensuring transparency, accountability and integrity in both the public and private sectors,” a NetOne representative said. “Without strong governance systems, trust in institutions can easily be eroded.”
The conference also saw the launch of Zimbabwe’s Sustainability Reporting Implementation Roadmap, a move expected to push companies to adopt global standards in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting.
Delegates noted that as Zimbabwe pushes towards Vision 2030, the role of accountants will be critical in restoring confidence in financial reporting and attracting investment.
NetOne reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote innovation, sustainability and sound corporate governance.
The event ended with stakeholders agreeing that the future of Zimbabwe’s economy hinges on ethical leadership, strong regulation and a modernised accountancy profession.
