On Saturday, robbers targeted George Stark High School in Mbare and Glen Norah 2 High School, escaping with an undisclosed amount of money and other valuables.
At George Stark High School, three robbers assaulted security guard Abisai Mushaikwa, 32, and tied up two other guards, Nyasha Timbira, 34, and Whitehead Chibara, 29. Abisai suffered head injuries during the attack.
According to Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the robbers were armed with a pistol and an iron bar. “Police are investigating armed robbery cases involving two schools in Harare,” stated Insp Chakanza.
He detailed the incident at the Mbare school, explaining that three security guards were bound, with one guard managing to escape and hide under a bus parked on the school grounds. The robbers used an iron bar and bolt cutter to break the key lock and force open the headmaster’s office.
They employed a grinder to open two safes and then forced open the bursar’s office, using a grinder to open that safe as well. They also broke into three other offices. The exact amount of stolen property is yet to be determined.
At Glen Norah 2 High School, the robbers made off with $1,900.
