A dispute over a late businessman’s estate has taken a new turn after one of his sons, Pardon Mugari, claimed that his father had a third wife, Tsitsi Ruvimbo, who should receive a share of the inheritance.
The estate was initially awarded to the businessman’s second wife, Anna Mugari, who was legally recognized as the sole surviving spouse. She took possession of two houses and a farm. However, Pardon, who is Anna’s stepson, is now insisting that Ruvimbo was also his father’s wife and deserves a portion of the estate.
Anna has since taken Pardon to court, accusing him of verbal and physical abuse. Meanwhile, Ruvimbo has filed a complaint at the Harare Civil Court, alleging a breach of peace.
Anna stated that Pardon has been trying to impose Ruvimbo as a legal wife and has been demanding that she be allocated part of the estate. She revealed that their legal battle has been ongoing since 2022.
Following her husband’s passing, she claimed Pardon had been pressuring her to relinquish a significant portion of the inheritance. She further explained that his other siblings had willingly transferred their rights to her as their guardian.
Anna also alleged that Pardon has already allowed Ruvimbo to settle on the farm and is cultivating half of the land. She expressed frustration over his actions, saying that despite his financial stability—running a well-known school in Harare—he continues to fight her over the estate.
When questioned about his stance, Pardon requested more time to respond to Anna’s claims.
The case is set to be heard tomorrow before Harare magistrate Meenal Narotam.
