Harare | Investigators with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) have detained a court interpreter who is accused of extorting money from a convicted felon who was requesting a longer period of time to make amends for his theft of trust property conviction.
Tomorrow is Aaron Chikuni’s (36), scheduled court appearance in response to extortion accusations.
The arrest of Chikuni at the Harare Magistrates Courts during an entrapment was confirmed by ZACC Commissioner Thandiwe Mlobane.
“I certify that on November 7, 2023, Zacc detained Mr. Aaron Chikuni (36), a court interpreter employed by JSC, on suspicion of extortion after he demanded money to guarantee a positive outcome from a magistrate who was scheduled to rule over a case involving the complainant. On November 9, 2023, he is scheduled to appear in court.
The setup was prompted by Patricia Ruzawi’s extortion complaint, which she filed when she appeared before Harare magistrate Ms. Caroline Matanga.
Patricia was found guilty of stealing trust property and was sentenced to 210 hours of community service in addition to restitution.
