The house at number 15 Frank Johnson Avenue in Eastlea, Harare, has recently gained attention due to serious allegations involving social media star Mai Jeremaya.
She claims that it was the location where she was allegedly assaulted by two men.
This house, named Paradise Guest Lodge, seems to offer a stark contrast between its name, suggesting peace and comfort, and the violent events Mai Jeremaya describes.
The lodge, located within a quiet, residential area, markets itself as a “private, intimate escape” designed for guests who seek discretion and comfort. Its online presence promises luxurious accommodations, free Wi-Fi, secure parking, and well-equipped rooms. The lodge’s reputation is based on offering a private setting for individuals looking for a temporary, secluded retreat.
Interestingly, the establishment operates on a pricing model that caters to short stays, with rates varying based on the duration of the guest’s visit. A daytime visit between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. costs around US$20, while a nightly stay, starting from 4 p.m., ranges from US$25 to US$30. The lodge’s pricing structure indicates it serves a specific clientele, often individuals looking for short, private encounters.
During a recent visit by H-Metro, the crew found the lodge’s security system to be high-tech, with automatic sensors opening the gate. When the crew posed as potential guests, they were informed by the receptionist about the flexible pricing structure, which ranged from US$10 for a two-hour stay to US$25 for a full night. The emphasis on time-sensitive pricing suggests that many patrons may come for brief stays, often for more intimate meetings.
The lodge is one of two similar establishments along the same avenue, and it’s evident that these kinds of venues often cater to couples, some of whom are likely to be engaged in transactional or casual relationships. With its affordable rates and the emphasis on privacy, it’s a place where individuals might seek secluded time away from the public eye.
While the lodge positions itself as a private getaway for lovers, it’s important to consider the potential dangers such places pose.
Paradise Guest Lodge is an example of how certain environments, even those marketed as safe or intimate, can become the setting for exploitation, manipulation, and assault, as was allegedly the case for Mai Jeremaya.
This highlights the complex nature of such venues: while they provide privacy and comfort, they can also be places where abuse and criminal activity occur under the guise of discretion.
