Emirates Celebrates 12 Years in Zimbabwe, Transporting Over 1.1 Million Passengers

Leading global airline Emirates is celebrating twelve years of operations in Zimbabwe, having transported 1.12 million passengers since its inaugural flight in February 2012.

Over a decade later, Emirates has facilitated enhanced travel and trade connections globally. “The Emirates story started in 1985 with just two aircraft. Today, we operate the world’s largest fleets of Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s, providing our customers with the latest in wide-body aircraft comfort,” the airline stated.

Emirates and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority recently renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reaffirming their commitment to attracting more international tourists to Zimbabwe. This partnership, formalized at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM), underscores the airline’s dedication to the Zimbabwean market by drawing visitors from its extensive network of over 130 destinations.

The MoU was signed by Badr Abbas, Emirates’ Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for Africa, and Ambassador Lovemore Mazemo of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, with other key officials present.

“Zimbabwe is a key emerging destination in Africa, attracting more international visitors each year. With this partnership, we renew our commitment to boosting inbound tourism and ensuring a superior travel experience to and from Zimbabwe,” said Badr Abbas.

William Stima expressed delight at the MoU renewal, highlighting its significance in strengthening collaboration and implementing strategic promotional programs to boost travel to Zimbabwe.

Under the MoU, Emirates will continue promoting Zimbabwe as a premier tourism destination, highlighting its natural wonders, wildlife, and cultural attractions. The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority will collaborate with the airline to develop initiatives for trade partners and tour operators, including incentives and familiarization trips, to drive tourism bookings.

With ambitions to become a leader in sustainable tourism in Africa by 2030, Zimbabwe aims to establish itself as a must-visit destination. The ongoing partnership with Emirates supports this vision, enhancing international visibility and drawing visitors from key markets such as the UAE, UK, China, and Australia.
