A Harare woman, Ratidzai Matsika, sought legal intervention at the Harare Civil Court yesterday, accusing her cousin, Rutendo Chapundu, of engaging in an affair with her husband since 2022.
Matsika was granted a peace order against Chapundu after alleging that her cousin had been verbally abusive and had made threats to take her husband and ruin her marriage.
In her testimony, Matsika stated, “Rutendo has vowed to destroy my marriage by snatching my husband. She confessed to having a sexual relationship with my husband since 2022, and she assaults me whenever I confront her about it.”
She further explained the distress caused by the situation, saying, “We are now competing for my husband’s attention, and she has made my marriage unbearable. She even contacts my husband while he is at home. Last Sunday, they had a heated argument, and she took her anger out on me.”
Matsika also detailed the personal nature of the insults, adding, “She insulted me and sent audio messages revealing intimate details about my marriage bed, which she learned from my husband. She has threatened to burn my house down and make me suffer if I don’t give up my husband to her.”
Responding to the accusations, Chapundu did not deny the sexual relationship with Matsika’s husband but claimed a difficult relationship with her cousin. “She is the one who calls me every day with insults, calling me a prostitute because we share a man. She should accept that or move on,” Chapundu told the court.
Harare magistrate Meenal Naratom issued a peace order, instructing Chapundu to refrain from verbally abusing and assaulting Matsika.
