The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has predicted widespread rainfall and localized showers across Zimbabwe from Monday, 12 November, to Friday, 15 November 2024.
In a weather alert released on Sunday, 10 November, the MSD indicated that heavy rains, potentially exceeding 50mm, are anticipated in the southern regions of Mashonaland West, Mashonaland East, and Harare Metropolitan Provinces on Wednesday, 13 November. According to the MSD, a cloud band entered Zimbabwe from the west on Sunday, 10 November, bringing moisture that covered all of Matabeleland and Bulawayo Metropolitan Provinces.
Further moisture is expected to move in from the southeastern coast of Southern Africa by Monday evening, 11 November, which will increase rainfall in Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and Manicaland Provinces on Tuesday, 12 November.
By Wednesday, 13 November, rainfall is expected to intensify in the southern areas of Mashonaland West, Mashonaland East, and Harare Metropolitan Provinces. Some areas may receive more than 50mm of rain in a 24-hour period, continuing from Tuesday, 12 November, through Thursday, 14 November.
The MSD also warned that thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong wind gusts will affect the entire country during this period. The public is urged to be cautious, especially near flooded rivers, low-lying bridges, and other water channels. People are advised not to attempt crossing flooded areas, as the conditions could be dangerous.
Additionally, there is a risk of tree falls, roof damage, and billboards being dislodged due to the expected strong winds.
