Justin Timberlake Arrested On Driving While intoxicated Charge

According to local officials who spoke to the BBC, Justin Timberlake was arrested for driving while intoxicated in New York.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office released a statement on Tuesday morning announcing the pop star’s arrest and formal charges.

The 43-year-old Timberlake was in Sag Harbour, a wealthy Hamptons community that is a favourite summertime hangout for A-listers on Long Island.

Following official charges, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office claimed he was freed without bond.

The BBC has reached out to Timberlake’s attorney for a response.

According to a charging document, Timberlake was pulled up by police in his grey BMW for running a stop sign and failing to stay on the right side of the road after midnight (05:37 BST).

The report stated that Timberlake had “bloodshot and glassy” eyes and that there was a “strong odour of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath” when the police stopped him.

It also stated that he spoke slowly and did badly on the sobriety tests administered by the officers.

Records also show that he declined to take a breathalyser test.
The police who stopped Timberlake allegedly said, “I had one martini and I followed my friends home,” according to CBS News, a US partner of the BBC.

On July 26, he is expected to appear remotely in Sag Harbour court.

On Tuesday night, Edward Burke Jr., his attorney, stated to CBS that he “will vigorously defend his client and is currently engaged in the Discovery process with the District Attorney’s Office”.

In order to promote his sixth album, Everything I Thought It Was, Timberlake has been touring the United States. The international phase of the tour is scheduled to begin in Poland next week.

Penalties in the state of New York for driving under the influence include a $1,000 (£786) fine, a minimum six-month licence suspension, and up to a year in jail.

Timberlake was supposed to play two performances in Chicago this weekend and one in Madison Square Garden in New York City the following Tuesday.
The ten-time Grammy winner is well-known for his parts in the motion pictures Friends With Benefits and The Social Network.
