The Lady Sables of Zimbabwe’s Women’s National Rugby Team defeated Zambia 26–25 in an exciting test match that was played in Lusaka on Saturday. It was a hotly contested affair.
The victory represents a noteworthy accomplishment because Zimbabwe was able to turn around their earlier Harare loss to Zambia.
The team’s performance impressed Lissy Wasarirevu, the interim head coach.
“I am pleased with the victory; it was a challenging encounter. Bravo to Zambia; they are a really strong team. I’m happy with the girls’ significant growth and the way we performed as a team, both on defence and offence. At camp, we’ve been putting in a lot of work, and it feels good to see the results. But strategically and generally, we still have a long way to go,” Wasarirevu remarked.
Kudzai Wasili scored two tries for Zimbabwe, Rufaro Tagarira scored one, and Trish Moko added another.
Tarren Munodaani performed admirably in terms of conversions.
Coach John Chibamba of Zambia stated.
It was a fiercely contested game, and I’m proud of my team’s perseverance. Zimbabwe had excellent play, and their tries were the result of well-run plays. We’ll evaluate our performance and return with more vigour. Zimbabwe deserves praise for their energetic play and well-earned win.”
The team’s demonstration of skill and tenacity delighted Regina Mwanandiwa, the chairperson of ZRU Women.
It was quite delightful to witness the girls’ outstanding performance. Even though it was a close match in the end, the women prevailed famously because they were able to remain together. I would want to express my gratitude to the administrative staff for organising everything and making this trip possible.
Due to the financial strain of guaranteeing faultless travel and arrangements, as you can understand, it’s never simple to prepare for such interactions,” she remarked.
Mwanandiwa also urged businesses to collaborate with the Zimbabwe Rugby Union in order to foster the growth of the game and inspire more female players.
She stated, “We continue to call on the corporate world to partner with us in ensuring the growth of the game, and we are grateful for the support received from our various stakeholders.”
Now, focus is on the Under 18 Junior Sables, who will fly to Johannesburg, South Africa, this coming weekend for the Craven Week competition.
With the senior squad’s success serving as motivation, expectations are high for Zimbabwe’s young rugby talent team to put on another impressive display.
