Chiredzi, Zimbabwe | A local man, Phillip Mafuta, has accused an alleged illegal money lender, Isaac Matinyarare, of forcefully seizing his silver Nissan Sulphy Bluebird over a purported US$60 debt.
Mafuta confirmed the incident to The Mirror, stating that Matinyarare confiscated the vehicle along with crucial documents such as the Agreement of Sale, Vehicle Registration Book, and spare and main keys.
Masvingo Acting Police Spokesperson Masauso Patinyu indicated that the matter was still under investigation.
Matinyarare, a resident of 85 B Curve, Chiredzi, countered Mafuta’s claim, asserting that the actual debt amounted to US$1,000. He promised to provide a signed affidavit to substantiate his claim but had not done so by press time.
Reliable sources have revealed that numerous vehicles belonging to individuals indebted to Matinyarare are currently impounded at Chiredzi Police Station.
This incident highlights the growing concern over the activities of illegal money lenders who often resort to forceful tactics to recover debts, disregarding legal procedures.
