Prophet Walter Magaya may be behind bars, but his influence was unmistakable at the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries’ Night of Turnaround event in Harare on Friday.
Magaya, currently in remand custody facing rape and fraud charges, could not attend, but the mega gathering drew thousands of congregants, including visitors from the United States, United Kingdom, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Namibia, and Botswana, according to organisers.
In his stead, Magaya’s 16-year-old son, Walter Jnr, was introduced to the congregation by his mother, Tendai. The young man arrived in style, stepping out of a 2025 Mercedes Benz GLS600 reportedly donated by businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo. Flanked by PHD security personnel, Walter Jnr took on his father’s responsibilities for the evening, including delivering pre-recorded messages from Magaya to the global PHD family.
The event kicked off with Overseer Zunza addressing the crowd:
“We cannot come all the way from where we were to be ashamed at this season. We will not be discouraged or put to shame; our God will fight on our behalf until all our enemies are under our feet.”
Later, a senior PHD member known only as Mr Madhora delivered a sermon on the biblical story of Daniel in the lions’ den.
“Our prophet is praying for us right now from his prison cell. We, too, are praying for him to fulfil the mission before him,” he told the attendees.
Despite Magaya’s absence, the service maintained its high-energy atmosphere, highlighting the enduring influence of the cleric and his family over PHD Ministries’ global congregation.
