A MAN from the Bulawayo suburb of Mabutweni fled after being caught attempting to rape a nine-year-old girl who was also his church friend in a wooded location, leaving the condom “stuck” on his manhood.
Lizwelihle Moyo Mpofu, 22, came before Learnear Khumalo, a magistrate in Western Commonage Court, to answer to a charge of attempted rape.
To the charge, he entered a not guilty plea.
Nevertheless, following a thorough trial, he was found guilty and given a 30-month prison sentence.
He was given a six-month suspension, subject to him not committing any sexual offences.
The magistrate took note of the victim’s age—nine years old—when determining the appropriate penalty, noting that the perpetrator had taken her from church and taken her to a wooded location.
She reported that he had torn her underwear with some degree of violence, and the medical report said she had minor lacerations on her intimate areas.
According to testimony given in court, Mpofu convinced the young girl to go with him to a nearby jungle area while he was attending a night church service, claiming he wanted to pray for her.
The young girl sensed danger while they were travelling and asked to turn around, but Mpofu seized her violently and led her into the dense vegetation.
According to reports, the girl shouted for aid as Mpofu was going to abuse her, drawing the notice of her parents and a few other congregants who hurried to the scene and stopped Mpofu before he could rape the kid.
When Mpofu realised he had been busted, he drove off while still sporting a condom on his manhood.
His sandals were also left at the scene of the crime. His arrest resulted from the crowd informing the police about the incident.
