Man Sentenced 12 Months for Attempted Stock Theft

Sipho Moyo, a 32-year-old resident of Pumula East, Bulawayo, appeared before the Inyathi Magistrates’ Court on charges of attempted stock theft.

Court documents state that on March 8, 2024, Moyo was found asleep inside the goat corral by the complainant’s herd boy. After capturing Moyo, the villagers searched him and discovered two knives in his possession.

When the villagers questioned Moyo, he said he was with a friend who is still at large and that his friend had abandoned him to sleep on the ground.

After the incident, the villagers went to the police with their concerns, which led to Moyo’s detention and subsequent court appearance.

Sipho Moyo was given a 12-month prison sentence, with six months suspended for a five-year period, by the Inyathi Magistrates’ Court. In actuality, he will spend six months behind bars.

In another story, Police Recover Stolen Copper Cables Worth US$48,000. Five people have been detained by Kadoma police on suspicion of being involved in the Sunday morning copper cable theft at Ngwarati Mine, Turf, Kadoma. Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, a spokesman for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday.

On April 14, 2024, at around 10:30 a.m., the suspects—identified as Donald Magaya (23), Onismo Magaya (26), Takudzwa Mango (25), Rabson Mandini (23), and Innocent Chafera (38)—were taken into custody in relation to the heist.

The suspects were travelling in two white Toyota GD6 cars when Kadoma police, acting on information received, stopped them near the Ngezi Services Garage in Turf, Kadoma.
