Minister Coventry Impressed By Geo Pomona Sports Facilities
Minister Kirsty Coventry of Sports, Arts, and Recreation has commended Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd for its investment in cutting-edge sports amenities, including a FIFA-certified soccer pitch, basketball, and tennis courts in Pomona.
During her visit to the Geo Pomona site on Monday, Minister Coventry expressed gratitude for private sector involvement in community development, emphasizing the importance of partnerships between the government and private entities.
“We are grateful for companies like Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd for their contribution to community development,” Minister Coventry remarked. “Their investment in these facilities, now accessible to the public, highlights the pivotal role of the private sector in supporting sports and recreation.”
Impressed by the remarkable transformation of the former dumpsite into a well-maintained facility, Minister Coventry lauded the efforts undertaken to clean and revamp the area. “To witness the transition from a massive dumpsite to standing on an internationally recognized astroturf is truly remarkable,” she remarked, acknowledging Geo Pomona and its team for their dedication to promoting sports and recreation.
Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd’s Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman, Mr. Dilesh Nguwaya, outlined plans for further enhancements, including the construction of terraces, changing rooms, and a restaurant at the facility. Mr. Nguwaya emphasized the potential for the national team to utilize the amenities for training, enhancing the facility’s status as a premier sports venue.
“The addition of amenities such as a restaurant, stands, and changing rooms will further enhance the facility’s appeal and functionality,” Mr. Nguwaya stated, underscoring Geo Pomona’s commitment to fostering sports excellence and community engagement.
