MWOS Secures Premiership Slot, Acquires ZPC Hwange Franchise

Norton-based MWOS Football Club will compete in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League this season after reaching an agreement to acquire the franchise of ZPC Hwange.

Following weeks of negotiations, the two parties finalized the deal today, receiving approval from ZIFA Southern Region.

The decision to sell the franchise stemmed from ZPC Hwange’s inability to financially support two teams in the Premiership while also managing ZPC Kariba.

Furthermore, the CAF Club Licensing rule, which prohibits two clubs owned by the same company from participating in the same competition, presented a significant obstacle for ZPC Hwange.

While efforts were made by the ZPC workers committee to secure the Premiership slot for relegated Hwange FC to maintain top-flight football in the coal-mining town, the club’s executive ultimately decided to sell the franchise to MWOS.

Patrick Tamson, the president of MWOS, confirmed the successful conclusion of the deal. “Yes, we will be participating in the Premiership this season after successfully finalizing a deal with ZPC Hwange,” Tamson stated, while declining to provide further details at this time.

MWOS will now utilize their previous slot in the Northern Region Soccer League for their developmental side, the MWOS U-19 team.

Under the guidance of coach Lloyd Mutasa, MWOS has already commenced preparations for their inaugural Premiership campaign.
