Mxolisi Nkomo, purportedly part of a machete-wielding gang, has been apprehended following their alleged assault and robbery of a couple at their residence in Kuwadzana, during which the assailants fled with the victims’ vehicle.
Nkomo made a brief appearance before magistrate Stanford Mambanje, during which the State sought a warrant for his further detention. This extension aims to afford the police ample time to conclude their investigations before proceeding to remand Nkomo.
According to court proceedings, on January 7, the couple was startled from their slumber in their bedroom by Nkomo and his associates, who had unlawfully entered their home. Armed with machetes and concealed behind balaclavas, the intruders proceeded to demand money from the couple.

Despite the wife’s assertion that they possessed no substantial cash, the gang persisted in their demands and resorted to menacing the couple with their weapons. Ultimately, the victims relinquished US$200 in an attempt to appease the robbers’ demands.
However, unsatisfied with their loot, the assailants proceeded to pilfer three cellphones, a 15kg gas tank, a jackhammer, assorted suits, a Toshiba laptop, clothing items, blankets, and groceries from the premises. Subsequently, the stolen goods were loaded into the couple’s gold Toyota Corolla, which the gang then utilized to make their getaway.
Nkomo’s arrest transpired after one of the stolen cellphones was traced back to him through its subsequent sale to another individual.
Representing the State, Lancelot Mutsokoti presented the case.
Mxolisi Nkomo is scheduled to reappear in court on Saturday, pending further legal proceedings.
