This past weekend, mobile network operator NetOne extended its Anti-Drug campaign to Tsholotsho, combining it with a generous donation of sports kits to foster community unity in the fight against substance abuse and promote healthy activities for the youth.
The event, attended by Zimbabwe’s Vice President Kembo Mohadi as the guest of honor, underscored NetOne’s commitment to social responsibility and community development. It also served as a tribute to the late visionary John Landa Nkomo.
NetOne, renowned for its extensive network coverage, has actively participated in various community projects under its #ImpactingLives theme. The recent Anti-Drug campaign in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North, held on September 30, 2024, follows a similar initiative in Chikomba district, Mashonaland East, last month. Company executives have announced plans to expand the campaign to all provinces and districts, aiming to support the government’s goal of a drug-free nation.
NetOne’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Learnmore Musunda, expressed the company’s dedication to a drug-free Zimbabwe.
“We chose Tsholotsho to join the community in celebrating the life of the late John Landa Nkomo. We also aim to continue his vision for a healthier, stronger, and more united Zimbabwe,” Musunda stated.
He concluded his speech by urging the youth to make wise decisions and fight against substance abuse, emphasizing that Tsholotsho, with its unique characteristics and challenges, is a key focus for the campaign. Musunda encouraged young people to make positive choices for a better future and to help eliminate substance abuse.
Mr. Tatenda Makumborenga highlighted that NetOne is committed to addressing social issues and creating a better Zimbabwe by not only discussing problems but also taking actionable steps.
NetOne’s donation of sports kits aims to support local sports activities, promoting an active lifestyle among the youth and providing them with quality equipment to pursue their passions. This gesture is expected to be well-received by the local sports community.
Vice President Mohadi’s speech at the event likely reinforced the importance of combating drug abuse and encouraging healthy living, adding significant weight to the campaign’s message.
NetOne Group CEO, Engineer Raphael Mushanawani, expressed enthusiasm about the campaign’s progress and its potential impact.
“The goal of NetOne’s Anti-Drug campaign is to increase awareness of substance abuse dangers and empower communities to make healthier choices. Our vision is to foster a drug-free and flourishing society,” Mushanawani said.
He added, “To achieve this, our campaign utilizes a comprehensive approach that includes educational programs, community engagement, and support for those affected by drug abuse. By combining these efforts, NetOne aims to make a significant impact in the fight against drug abuse and contribute to the government’s initiatives.”
