Over 40 Buses and Trucks Seized in Police Crackdown on Drug Smuggling

More than 40 buses and trucks linked to the smuggling of illicit drugs have been seized in a police operation targeting drug cartels.

During the operation, one of the buses was discovered carrying 71 kilograms of dagga, while several other vehicles contained illicit beers imported from neighboring countries.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, stated that the drivers and conductors of the seized buses and trucks failed to identify the individuals behind the illegal goods.

“Nearly 50 buses and trucks involved in transporting dagga, illicit beers, and other prohibited items have been impounded,” said Comm Nyathi. “The operation to combat drug and substance abuse is ongoing, and we are determined to bring all responsible parties to justice.”

He issued a stern warning to transport operators, drivers, and conductors, urging them to cease the distribution of illegal substances.

“Anyone caught engaging in illegal activities, including trafficking in illicit goods and drugs, will be arrested without hesitation,” Comm Nyathi warned.

The police spokesperson also raised concerns about the increase in rape and murder cases, which are believed to be linked to individuals under the influence of illicit drugs.

He highlighted that some unlicensed businesses are producing drinks with high alcohol content, claiming medicinal and sex-enhancing benefits, which have contributed to a rise in violent crimes.

“We urge all business operators to adhere to government regulations and obtain the necessary licenses,” Comm Nyathi emphasized.
