Harare | Social media streets are on fire over a former police officer who successfully caught two thieves red-handed during a chadonha incident.
On Facebook, Tafadzwa Chidawa is well-known for hunting down and apprehending robbers in the act. His tenure as a police officer ended in 2019 with his retirement. These days, he apprehends criminals and broadcasts live their methods on Facebook.
In one of Chidawa’s movies, a man from Harare and his accomplice planned to use the chadonha technique to steal from members of the public.
They informed the modest girl they had chosen some money to split and went up to her with a bundle of cash. The two had their business near Jumbo on Cameron Street.
The girl followed them to the place where they would split the money, seeing an opportunity to eat free food.
In all this, Tafadzwa Chidawa was filming everything live on his phone on Facebook.
The thief then entered a shop to count the money while his accomplice and the targeted victim waited at the entrance. They then asked the girl to leave her bags with one of them so they could go and share. The victim had doubts and decided to walk away with her belongings.
The two thieves tried conning three other women unsuccessfully till they got another target. They convinced a pregnant woman, who accepted the prospect of free money. One of the cons went into a shop to count the money.
On returning, the two gave the lady the money so she could go into a different shop to share it. They took the lady to the crowded Market Square area and asked her to leave her belongings so she wouldn’t flee. When she entered, the two thieves started running, and Chidawa caught up with them. He then ordered them to sit down. Chidawa and his partner handcuffed the two thieves.
Moments later, the victim walked out of the shop and revealed they were about to steal her bag with US$70.
Chidawa took the robbers to the ZRP Market Square post.
