Controversial road construction company ‘Instant Tar’ has once again secured a tender, this time for the Shonhiwa Drive and Koshen Drive projects in Norton, despite recent failures in meeting quality standards on the Harare Drive – Alpes road section.
A memo obtained by ZiMetro reveals that the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Honorable Mhona, is scheduled to tour the problematic section of Harare Drive that is set for rework due to substandard construction.
Instant Tar faced significant backlash after Temba Mliswa, a prominent local leader, publicly criticized the poor quality of their work. In a video posted online, Mliswa expressed his frustration, saying, “The road is made as if it’s meant to accommodate the SADC meeting and go back to how it was before.”
ZiMetro News has learned that Instant Tar has been awarded numerous road construction tenders recently, raising suspicions of possible political connections. There are growing rumors that the company may have ties to Zanu PF, fueling concerns over the fairness and transparency of the tender process.
In a new development announced earlier today, the controversial company was awarded the tender for Shonhiwa Drive and Koshen Drive in Norton. Councilor Tinashe Machemedze shared the news on his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating:
“It is with much pleasure that I announce the immediate resumption of work on Shonhiwa Drive and Koshen Drive. The Ministry of Transport has awarded the contract for the project to Instant Tar. It will commence work tomorrow, 5 June.”
The awarding of this new tender to Instant Tar, despite their recent track record, has sparked a fresh wave of criticism and concern among residents and stakeholders about the quality and reliability of future road projects.
