Harare | Henrietta Rushwaya, the head of the Zimbabwe Miners Federation, will spend a further weekend in remand prison after the Anti-Corruption Court at the High Court today rescheduled her sentence for Tuesday of the following week.
Rushwaya was remanded in detention pending sentencing today after being found guilty last week of smuggling 6 kg of gold worth more than US$333 000 to Dubai three years ago.
Judge Pisirayi Kwenda, however, continued the case until the following week so that the defence and State attorneys may address the court regarding punishment under the revised guidelines.
Zimra, the victim in this instance, would probably be asked to provide a “impact assessment report” detailing how Rushwaya’s criminal activity negatively impacted the revenue authority.
It’s unclear if Fidelity Printers will be asked for opinion as well.
On October 26, 2020, Rushwaya was detained at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport for smuggling gold through the VIP route while travelling to Dubai.
