There has been an outpouring of sorrow following the tragic death of eight-year-old Tinaye Chibaya, who succumbed to head injuries after being pulled by a horse he was riding in Ruwa on Easter Saturday.
Tinaye was among the primary school students invited to celebrate a classmate’s birthday at Bushman Rock Safaris in Ruwa, accompanied by his parents, Brian Chibaya, a banker, and Memory Tsveture Chibaya.
During the festivities, which included horse riding, a sudden disturbance, possibly from a charging giraffe, startled the horses, causing panic among the riders. Tinaye’s leg became trapped in the saddle, leading to him being dragged, with his head repeatedly striking rocks along the way, resulting in fatal injuries.
The family had departed for Masvingo for Tinaye’s burial arrangements by the time H-Metro reached out to them. Efforts to obtain a response from authorities at Bushman Rock Safaris were unsuccessful.
Friends have flooded online platforms with messages of shock and condolences for the grieving family.
