A man from Shurugwi, Emmanuel Mahembe, has been sentenced to two life terms in prison by the High Court for the brutal murders of his two girlfriends. The 37-year-old was convicted during a session held in Gweru on September 25.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Mahembe lured both women into relationships before committing the crimes. His first victim, a 37-year-old woman, was murdered between August 2021 and September 2022.
Mahembe took her to a remote location near the Dhanga dip tank, where he killed her, wrapped her body in a blanket, and buried it by the Gwamamvura River before stealing her Honda Fit and selling it.

The second victim, a 35-year-old woman, met her end on May 22, 2021, after a heated argument over money during a drive to her sister’s home in Shurugwi. Following the murder, Mahembe discarded her body in a disused mine shaft at Mutevekwi Bridge.
He then deceived her son into sending money to her Ecocash account, which he misappropriated for his own use, all while continuing to drive her stolen vehicle.
The situation unraveled when the families of the deceased grew suspicious and reported their concerns to the police, leading to Mahembe’s arrest. Emmanuel Mahembe
