President Emmerson Mnangagwa has stated that no one should be left behind for trivial reasons, except in cases where the aspiring candidate has a lengthy criminal record.
This was announced during a tense Politiburo meeting on Monday, where the party’s highest decision-making body deliberated on election dates and other issues.
Following Mnangagwa’s announcement, Epworth MP aspirant Kudakwashe Damson’s head was guillotined.
He was barred from running for office after allegedly assaulting a Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) official.
His disqualification validates Zanu PF’s call for nonviolence.
However, it appears that the National Electoral Committee overlooked some elements that should have resulted in disqualification.
One such is Stalin Mau Mau ,a DCC4 senatorial aspirant.
A tainted past haunts Mau Mau who dismally lost the Harare East parliamentary seat in 2000.
His name miraculously. survived the chop basing on the fact that records of his previous criminal records are on public domain.
Even if his name sails through, he has a mammoth task to win a ticket of representing the revolutionary party in the harmonised elections slated for August.
With campaigns reaching fever pitch after the recent postponement, some political analysts opined that Mau Mau’s not so squakey clean history will trail him and emasculate his chances of winning in an area that has capable candidates.

“People want candidates who are fit and proper to hold public office and look the number of fraud cases he has been sucked into,” said a political analyst who spoke on condition of anonymity.
In 2003, the businessman and boxing promoter was sucked in housing scam which prejudiced Homelink of US$760 000 and unlawfully attempted to sell a property to two parties namely businesswoman Kuda Mupawose and Caroline Shonhiwa.
Mau Mau was to be slapped with a 15month jail sentence in 2013 for driving without a licence.
“The Second Republic champions a corruption free environment and surely candidates like Mau Mau are not suitable .
“Bear in mind that he was also part of the late Midzi war veterans executive that failed to account for ZWL 40 million.
“In the United Kingdom ,he was investigated by the Home Office,so was his supermarket in Leigh-on-Sea.
“Is Mau Mau even his real name?” further submitted the analyst.
Mau Mau could not be reached for comment at the time of writing.
Meanwhile, the new date for the tightly contested Zanu PF primary elections will only be known after the Polituburo meeting held Monday.
Speculative reports suggest factionalism might be one of the reasons that forced the ruling party to go back to the drawing board and deliberate.
Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa however rubbished such speculation and said it was merely part of an intra party democratic process.
