HARARE — Tonee Tapiwa Vambe has broken his silence after the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) reportedly described him as a fugitive and runaway suspect in connection with a case involving OrganiCare.
The ZRP announced on Saturday, 16 May 2026, that Vambe, who represents the organisation, was being sought by authorities. However, Vambe has strongly denied the allegations, insisting that he was never on the run and had fully cooperated with law enforcement officials.
According to Vambe, he only received communication from the police on the evening of Monday, 18 May 2026, instructing him to report to Harare Central Police Station ahead of a scheduled court appearance the following day.
On Tuesday morning, 19 May 2026, Vambe presented himself at Harare Central Police Station accompanied by his legal counsel, where he faced charges under the Medicines Act. He was later released on free bail.
Speaking after the court proceedings, Vambe described himself as a law-abiding citizen who would never evade the authorities. He said both he and OrganiCare remain committed to complying with the country’s laws and regulatory requirements.
“I would never run away from law enforcement agencies. We are fully compliant and committed to addressing this matter through the proper legal channels,” Vambe said.
He also accused some parties of spreading false and defamatory information aimed at tarnishing his reputation and damaging the image of OrganiCare. Vambe suggested that the controversy may be linked to business rivalry, alleging that competitors could have influenced events surrounding the case.
The allegations against OrganiCare also include claims that groundnut shells, commonly referred to as “makoko enzungu,” were used in medicines associated with the organisation. Vambe dismissed the accusations as false and misleading.
In addition, he claimed that police unlawfully seized exhibits belonging to OrganiCare and carried out what he described as an unlawful arrest without conducting proper due diligence. He indicated that a formal complaint against the ZRP was being prepared.
At the time of publication, the Zimbabwe Republic Police had not publicly responded to the latest claims made by Vambe.
