A female passenger, traveling aboard a commuter omnibus from Epworth to the Harare CBD, suffered the loss of her eye following an assault by the conductor, who accused her of not paying the 50 cents bus fare.
Anesu Mapondera boarded the commuter omnibus around 6 pm on Monday, taking a seat near the front. She duly paid her 50 cents fare. However, upon preparing to disembark, the conductor, identified as Tafadzwa Zivavo, began insisting that she pay the fare again.
Despite Mapondera’s attempts to explain that she had already paid, a disagreement ensued between the two. Zivavo escalated the situation, resorting to violence by forcefully grabbing Mapondera’s head and turning it towards him. He then headbutted her, causing serious injury to her left eye, before pushing her away.
Mapondera, having sustained a severe eye injury, promptly reported the incident to the police. Subsequently, Zivavo appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi to face charges related to the assault.
Meanwhile, another case unfolded before the same court, with Last Takundwa facing charges of murder stemming from an altercation involving his ex-girlfriend’s new partner.
According to court proceedings, on March 4, around 4 am, Takundwa and his suspected accomplices, Robson Takundwa and Justin Magedhi, were consuming alcohol at Big Dhara Nite Club located at Glen View 4 Shopping Centre. A dispute arose between the trio and Geodricks Mushonga, resulting from Takundwa’s previous relationship with Mushonga’s girlfriend.

The altercation escalated, leading the group to block the club’s entrance and forcibly remove Mushonga to a nearby bus terminus, where they proceeded to assault him. During the altercation, one of the assailants produced a knife, inflicting three stab wounds upon Mushonga to his head, back, and buttocks.
Following the assault, the perpetrators fled the scene and went into hiding. Takundwa was subsequently remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings, with Rufaro Chonzi representing the State in the case.
