The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has confirmed that the 2024 Grade 7, Ordinary, and Advanced Level exams were conducted successfully, with no reports of paper leaks. In previous years, ZIMSEC exams were marred by various cheating incidents, such as candidates being replaced by others during exams and leaks of question papers.
However, in an interview with The Herald, ZIMSEC’s Public Relations Manager, Nicolette Dlamini Moyo, attributed the smooth running of this year’s exams to stronger collaboration, better security measures, and an increased focus on raising awareness.
She specifically highlighted the significant contribution of the National Association of Primary School Heads (NAPH) and the National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH) in enforcing strict security protocols to ensure the exams’ integrity. Dlamini Moyo stated: “The 2024 Ordinary and Advanced Level exams are now halfway through, and there have been no reports of prior access to question papers.”
She went on to thank the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, as well as law enforcement and state security agencies, for their ongoing efforts to protect the integrity of the exams. She also expressed gratitude to school administrators, especially those in NAPH and NASH, for their critical role in implementing security measures.
NASH President, Arthur Maphosa, commended ZIMSEC for its improved security practices, noting that these measures helped prevent exam leaks this year.
He observed that, unlike in previous years, essential subjects like English and Mathematics were conducted without incident. Maphosa further emphasized the importance of collaboration between schools and ZIMSEC, praising the joint efforts to ensure the examinations remained credible and secure.
