The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has initiated a countrywide operation targeting unregistered vehicles, warning that all non-compliant vehicles will be impounded.
Authorities have stated that seized vehicles will only be released once the necessary registration processes have been completed.
In a recent announcement, law enforcement officials cautioned motorists against driving unregistered vehicles, emphasizing that doing so is a direct violation of the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act.
The directive applies to all vehicles, including those owned by individuals, businesses, and government entities.
Additionally, the ZRP raised concerns over irregularities in vehicle ownership transfers, revealing that many vehicles are being sold multiple times without updating the registration details.
Investigations have exposed cases where vehicles have changed hands multiple times—some as many as five to seven times—without the necessary ownership updates, leaving them still registered under the original owner’s name.
“Police investigations have revealed a troubling trend where vehicles are repeatedly resold but remain under the initial owner’s name,” the statement read.
Authorities have pledged to thoroughly probe such cases and take legal action against those who fail to comply with vehicle registration laws. Motorists are urged to ensure that ownership transfers are completed within the legally required two-week period following a sale.
The crackdown is already underway, with police confirming that all impounded vehicles will only be released once they fully meet registration requirements.
The ZRP has called for full cooperation from vehicle owners, stressing that these measures are essential for road safety and law enforcement. Motorists are advised to take the warning seriously as authorities tighten enforcement of vehicle registration and transfer regulations.
