ZRP's Reckless Driving Kills 4 Along Harare-Chirundu Road

The Harare-Chirundu road witnessed a tragic accident resulting in the loss of four lives, with two police officers among the victims. The collision occurred when a Mahindra police vehicle, traveling towards Harare, veered into the lane of oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on collision with a Trip Trans bus.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described the impact of the collision as severe, leaving behind a trail of destruction. The collision claimed the lives of four individuals, including two police officers from Chinhoyi.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesman, confirmed the devastating incident. He assured the public that the police would issue a comprehensive statement regarding the accident, shedding light on the circumstances that led to the tragic collision.

The loss of lives in this accident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations. Reckless driving poses a significant risk to all road users, and tragedies like this highlight the need for vigilance and caution while traveling.

This is not the first time a Mahindra police vehicle has been reportedly veered of the road, Four months ago another Police Mahindra vehicle was reported to have veered off the road kiling a police officer and injuring four along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway. A police report seen by ZiMetro News says the injured were admitted at Mpilo Hospital.

The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident in which a Police officer died whilst four others were injured when a Police Mahindra vehicle veered off the road before overturning several times at the 11.5-kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road on 23/10/2023. The body of the victim was taken to United Bulawayo Hospital mortuary for post-mortem whilst the injured are admitted at Mpilo Hospital.

It is imperative for law enforcement agencies to conduct thorough investigations into incidents of reckless driving to prevent similar accidents in the future.
