Former President Jacob Zuma, now uMkhonto weSizwe Party leader, has chosen ANC veteran Tony Yengeni to act as his representative during disciplinary hearing by the African National Congress today. Zuma is still an ANC member.
MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela said the ANC Disciplinary Committee has not yet responded to a request made by Zuma’s lawyers that the hearing should take place at a physical venue, and in person, as previously agreed between the parties.
“We should further reflect on the fact that the same DC representatives had previously confirmed President Zuma’s attendance at Luthuli House for the kangaroo court to be attended in person, but suddenly decided at a whim to postpone the in person hearing amid a pre-election climate because of so called fictitious security fears expressed by the ANC of Ramaphosa to be held at the venue decided by them,’ Ndlela said.
Despite the scheduled start time of 9am, Zuma and his chosen representative, Yengeni, were nowhere to be seen Luthuli House in Johannesburg CBD. Security was tight, with SAPS and Johannesburg Metro Police on high alert due to security concerns surrounding Zuma’s hearing.
The ANC NDC had decided to conduct the hearing virtually, citing safety measures as the reason for this choice.

Yesterday, Ndhlela stated that Zuma will use Rule 25 to appoint any ANC member to represent him during the hearing. “According to Rule 25 of the ANC Constitution, President Zuma is entitled to be represented by any fellow member of the ANC if he so chooses.
In this regard and in line with these provisions, President Zuma will be represented by a long-standing struggle veteran, former ANC NEC member and Commander of uMkhonto weSizwe, Comrade Tony Yengeni,” he said.
Ndhlela said that Zuma believes that Yengeni is well placed as a seasoned commander of the disbanded ANC military wing, uMkhonto weSizwe, to represent him in the “kangaroo court.” Yengeni is a known critique of the current ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa.
