Excel College and Pathway College- Recent developments have surfaced regarding the incident involving six school children found in a compromising situation at a lodge in Chitungwiza.

The group comprised three girls from Excel College and three boys from Pathway College, who allegedly planned a day off from school to engage in inappropriate activities.

Whistleblower Reveals Students’ Plans

According to H-Metro, the whistleblower, a taxi driver and former head boy of one of the schools, played a key role in exposing the students’ intentions. After dropping them off at the Royal Guest Lodge, he promptly informed his former school about their plans. This led the school to alert the police, who subsequently intervened.

Authorities also arrested a lodge employee, 36-year-old Christabel Muchemwa, for permitting underage students to book rooms.

Investigations revealed that two of the girls were meeting their partners for the first time. One of the boys, aged 19, remains in police custody to assist with ongoing inquiries, while the girls were taken for medical examinations before being released to their parents. Alarmingly, reports suggest that one girl may have participated in inappropriate activities with her partner.

School Principal Addresses the Incident

The principal of one of the colleges released a recorded statement to H-Metro regarding the situation:

“Parents are understandably heartbroken, but it’s important to clarify that this situation is not solely their fault or ours. The children did not escape from the school premises; they left home under the pretense of attending classes, which start at 7:30 am.

“Unbeknownst to us, they had other plans, and we later discovered that a 19-year-old student from Pathway College, along with two other accomplices from the same school, orchestrated the entire episode. This trio is now facing charges as they paid for the lodge accommodations,” he stated.

He expressed relief that the school acted quickly upon learning about the situation:

“We realized we had no authority to intervene directly at the lodge to retrieve our children.”

In light of this incident, parents are expected to attend counseling sessions aimed at addressing the emotional impact. Furthermore, there are plans for a public awareness campaign to discourage lodges from accommodating underage clients.
